Advertising?

      Pixel advertising is a relatively new form of internet advertising that is increasing in popularity.  Publicity surrounding a pixel advertising website started by a British student who needed to raise money to pay for his university education has created great interest in this type of advertising.

    The website, called the milliondollarhomepage.com has earned Alex Tew over $700,000.00 since he launched it in August, 2005.  Tew's website homepage is a grid that is divided into one million pixel blocks.  Pixels are sold in 100 pixel blocks, each measuring 10 x 10 pixels.  Each pixel block becomes part of a colorful mosaic of advertising.  At $1.00 a pixel, when the page is sold out, Tew will have raised one million dollars for his education.  Notice the banner at the top of this page?  That is a pixel advertising banner.

   How can your Nonprofit Organization raise money with Pixel Advertising?

     Could your club or group earn one million dollars with pixel advertising?  Anyone can set up a pixel advertising website. Your organization may already sell advertising space in your programs or other printed materials.  It is just like selling any other form of advertising except that the advertisement appears on the world wide web.  

     There are businesses online that sell the software programs to produce a pixel advertising website.  These programs allow you to customize your pixel site and sell the pixel blocks at any price you choose. If you sell pixels in 100 pixel blocks for $100.00 you would have to sell ten thousand ad blocks in order to raise one million dollars. If your club thinks that raising one million dollars is a bit unrealistic, you can charge, for example, 5 cents a pixel and still raise $50,000.  Even if you charged as little as one penny a pixel you could still earn $10,000!   Click here for a list of pixel ad software programs

     How could your organization use pixel advertising to raise money?  You could sell pixels and donate the money to a charitable organization such as The American Red Cross.  Or you could sell pixels for a specific project such as building a playground, or a spring class trip.  A school group could sell pixels to alumni or parents of a graduating class.  The possibilities for fundraising are limitless.        

What you Need to get Started with Pixel Advertising

  If your organization already has a website you can set up pixel advertising on a page of your exisiting website.  Or, you can buy a new domain and set up a website soley for your pixel fundraising.  You will need a web hosting account for your site and a pixel advertising software program.  You can buy a software program online and install it yourself or have it installed by a professional programmer.  You will also need to set up an online payment processor, such as PayPal.  When your website is set up you will need a person in your organization to administer the program.  Then, your organization needs to get busy and publicize and sell your pixels!
